March 20, 2020:
With a heavy heart, we’ve decided to cancel this year’s Taste of Potrero, given recent orders to suspend public gatherings.
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit our community hard. Restaurants, small businesses and the arts are suffering financial losses. For public schools, it is a double-whammy. San Francisco Unified is facing a major budget shortfall and proposing employee layoffs.
Longtime supporters of Taste of Potrero know that proceeds from this event make up 75% of Daniel Webster Elementary’s PTA budget. This money pays for support staff and supplies for a community that is 45% socio-economically disadvantaged.
If you’ve already purchased Taste of Potrero tickets, please consider turning it into a tax-deductible donation to the school. If you hadn’t yet purchased tickets but would like to support our students, please make a donation via the PayPal button below.
Taste of Potrero features more than 50 of San Francisco’s best chefs, brewers, bartenders and winemakers — all donating their food, time and talent to raise money for our community.
It is Daniel Webster’s largest fundraiser of the year and contributes to more than 75% of our annual PTA budget. This budget helps support many of our school’s programs and resources – all to benefit our kids, teachers, and community.
The Story Behind Taste of Potrero:
The brainchild of past DW PTA Fundraising Chair Adam Zolot, TOP was launched in 2011 in an effort to put the fun back in fundraising by bringing the SF community together to enjoy and celebrate the phenomenal chefs, bartenders, restaurants, and tremendous generosity we have in our midst.
TOP has continued to grow to meet the expanding needs of Daniel Webster; in spite of the appearance of economic recovery, the school continues to suffer from budget shortfalls on the most basic level, including classroom books and instructional materials.
Through TOP we can ensure that all of our school’s children (including more than 50% of serious economic need), have the instruction, basic tools, services, and materials necessary to receive the high-quality education they deserve.
